BELGIUM BEER TOUR

“Unlocking The Door To Flanders”
May 3 - May 11, 2025

Overview

Explore a world where beer and culture intertwine in perfect harmony.

Beer isn't just a beverage, it's a symbol of community and tradition that brings people together. Years later, you’ll vividly recall the complex taste of a Belgian Trappist ale or the robust aroma of a German Oktoberfest and the people you shared these experiences with.

By blending the quintessential spirit of adventure with a deep appreciation for beer, you'll immerse yourself in the heart of the world's most vibrant beer cultures. Whether you're savoring a crisp pilsner in the Czech Republic, learning the art of brewing traditional Belgian lambics, or sharing a pint with locals at a centuries-old Irish pub, each experience promises to leave a lasting impression.

From brewery visits to beer pilgrimages, our tours are crafted to offer immersive experiences with a sudsy twist for the beer aficionado and cultural enthusiast alike. Part history, part adventure, all delicious! Thirsty for adventure? Come along for the journey and we'll have you tasting, toasting, and appreciating beer like a true local.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Saturday, May 3 - Brussels

Meet Qiuxia and Kevin at the Hotel Dominican just by the Grand Place of Brussels. We will start the day with a Chocolate and beer pairing along a pub crawl at several of Brussels iconic drinking establishments. Werner will be our local guide who is not only an expert brewer, but also an expert chocolatier. He literally makes both beer and chocolate professionally. Overnight will be spent in Brussels at the Hotel Dominican, which was an actual Dominican Abbey in days past. (B)

Day 2: Sunday, May 4 - Brussels to Gent

In the morning we will depart for the beautiful city of Gent. We will spend lunch with a couple of long time friends at the brewery of Sint Canarus along with a BBQ lunch prepared by Dr. Canarus himself. In the afternoon, we visit Brewery De Meester with our friend Dirk and his wife. Evening will be free to explore Gent. Go to the lovely Friday Market and visit the traditional pub scene. Overnight will be at the amazing Pillows Grand Hotel. (B,L)

Day 3: Monday, May 5 - West Flanders

Today we will visit two very different (but very character filled) breweries. First stop will be at my personal favorite brewery (Kevin here) in all of West Flanders, Omer. We can get this beer at some select specialty bottle shops here in the US, but there is nothing better than getting it straight from the source. After Omer, we will visit our friends Bruno and his lovely wife at Brouwerij met Brasserij ‘t Gaverhopke for a nice home cooked lunch along with the beers that Bruno brews on site (complete with petting zoo of Belgian lop eared rabbits, Shetland Ponies and more.

Overnight in Gent - Pillows Grand Hotel (B,L)

Day 4: Tuesday, May 6 -Gent

Today is a bit of a rest and recover day. In the morning, we will have a chocolate workshop. Then the rest of the day is free to explore the city. We will arrange options for “add on’s” through the day. Don’t miss the famous mustard shop on the main square.

Overnight Ghent - Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel (B)

Day 5: Wednesday, May 7 - Gent to Brugge

This one is the big challenge. We will make our first stop at the literal mecca of all beer. The home of Westvleteren, the Abbey of Sint-Sixtus. The only place on the planet where you can legally buy this beer made buy the monks within the walls of the abbey. Year after year, the Westvleteren 12º is ranked the best beer in the world. After that, we move on a few miles west through the hop fields of the Poperinge region to St. Bernardus Brewery for a really nice self guided, yet interactive tour of the brewery. It finishes with a rooftop tasting in their newly renovated restaurant with a terrific view of the countryside of West Flanders.

Overnight Brugge - Hotel Dukes’ Academie (B,L)

Day 6: Thursday, May 8 - Brugge

What a day today this will be! The charming fairy-tale city of Brugge. We will enjoy a wonderful tour of the brewery of the Halve Maan. The tour finishes with the most wonderful view of the medieval town on top of of the brewery itself. After a traditional Flemish lunch at the brewery, the afternoon is free to explore.

Overnight in Brugge - Hotel Dukes’ Academy (B,L)

Day 7: Friday, May 9 - Brugge

This is a really fun day to soak in some local culture. We will start the morning with a boat tour through the canals to get a unique perspective of the architecture of this historic city. You will be fairly free from there, but there is certain to be unofficial happy hours at De Garre (highly recommended) and Brugge’s oldest pub which is just a 10 minute walk from the center. Don’t miss the Belgian Beer Wall where you can find beer that Kevin helped to design. We will do a bottle share this evening and weigh our luggage to make sure it is not above the limit. The bottle share has been a highlight on every trip thus far. It happened organically on our very first trip and has been a favorite ever since.

Overnight Bruges - Hotel Dukes’ Academie (B)

Day 8: Saturday, May 10 - Brugge to Brussels

Once we arrive back in Brussels, we will check in to the hotel. The day will be free until mid-afternoon which is when we will get together for a farewell happy hour at pub TBD.

Day 9: Sunday, May 11 -  Bruges to Brussels

Breakfast at the Hotel Dominican - Tour officially ends.
